Tiger Trophy - Dan Hare
04 & 05 February 2012
The Tiger Trophy took place this year over the weekend of the 4th and 5th of February with snow being forecasted for Saturday night. It was definitely going to be an event for the brave or maybe the stupid, you can decide. Dan Hare from Stone Sailing Club decided to take up the challenge and went to the Tiger to crew Mark Barnes on his B14.
On Saturday there were 155 boats signed on and three races scheduled. The wind was blowing 10 to 15 knots so the Race Officer sailed all three races. Dan’s results on day one were 12th, 63rd and 7th so with the 63rd being a discard this left Dan and his helm in a commanding position overnight.
Sundays race was a non discardable pursuit race, for once the weathermen got the forecast spot on and overnight 8 inches of snow fell. The race officer decided to race anyway and the recorded temperature on the water was -5c. So, in true Stone spirit Dan and his helm entered the race getting a credible 17th position which left them 7th overall out of the 155 helms. Well done Dan, we’re looking forward to seeing you in the new season.
